The Pinball Arcade Empty The Pinball Arcade

Post  Smakx Thu Sep 20, 2012 8:29 pm

    Hello,

I play The Pinball Arcade on the Xbox 360, so what I post in regards to it mostly relates to the console versions. Thus far table packs have been released for the 360 and ps3 around the same time. There are versions for Ipad, Android, Kindle, and maybe more that are a couple table packs ahead of the consoles.

The next table pack coming for Xbox 360 and PS3 is #4: Black Knight and Creature from the Black Lagoon. I'm not real excited about these, maybe cftbl, but for $3 a table, why not?

After that comes #5: Harley-Davidson Third Edition and Taxi. Not a huge fan of the HD table. We had a taxi at the bowling alley when i was in hs, played the crap out of it. Looking forward to this one.

Next is #6: Elvira and the Party Monsters and No Good Gofers. For me Elvira atpm is the same as taxi above, they had it at the same bowling alley around the same time.

I've never played a real NGG, and its such a busy table that previous virtual versions were hard to play IMO, including Farsight's own previous version in Williams Pinball hall of Fame. We'll see on that one..

On the horizon are Twilight Zone and Star Trek TNG, both licensed through crowd sourcing (kickstarter).

There is also a PC version that is reported to be "ready". Farsight is running a greenlight campaign to release it through steam.

More info about The Pinball Arcade can be found here:

I finally downloaded the latest 2 pack for ps3, Monster Bash and Gorgar. Monster Bash is cool and I like the physics. Gorgar is OK, but I hated it when it was released, I use to go into the bowling alley and kick the bottom of Gorgar to shut it off, who in the hell decided to make a pinball machine talk to you, he should have been shot.

I had to download a 2.01 patch before I could play logged in or before I could download the new pack, the 2.01 patch has changed the other tables, a couple of them play like the ball is in mud now, Ripley's was totally unplayable for me. This company is about as bad as you can get for fixin' stuff, I love pinball, I love the concept of how they are doing it for ps3 with dlc, but I am beginning to hate this company. My rating for TPA is still 3 out of 10. Thank god for Zen, too bad they aren't making these real table conversions.

The TPA update for ios is supposed to include all four new tables, since they missed the September release date. Rumor is (according to a farsight tweet) it should be out before the end of the month.

Also, some of the old broken shit is supposed to be fixed.

I haven't been too upset with them as a company. They're not charging a whole bunch for what they do, and even slightly broken, I'm having fun playing their tables.

They should add some better unlockable's for completing all of the Wizard Goals. On TPA when you complete all of the Wizard Goals you get the ability to turn Tilt off for that table. Big freakin deal i've never tilted playing this game b4 anyways... you'd have to be a scrub to tilt Freddie

on WilliamsPHOF on 3DS when you complete all wizard goals you get to play the table completely mirrored, why not do that with TPA? Give me some reason to keep playing because its definitely not the hour long game times that is gonna keep me coming back...

I bought Creature and Black Knight and got the 2.03 patch for ps3 last night. Patch seem to have a lot of changes which effects all the previous games. I can at least play Ripley's now, the ball was like in mud after the last patch. The tables all still seem to be in a lower resolution and none of them really look that great to me, they are suppose to be scanned, but they look they are from Looney Toones cartoon to me. Hi res tables in VP actually give the playfield a look of realness, TPA never looks real and you can always count on a few bugs that are just unforgivable from these guys when a table is first released.

All of the TPA tables seem to play better with this patch, the ball felt better and they were fun to play. Maybe things are looking up and I am just too critical. I understand the price is cheap, but I didn't set the price, I want quality, I expect more from these guys than I would from the best VP author, their tables should blow away the best VP tables and they don't.

Between zen pinball/pinball fx2 and the pinball arcade, there is some pretty good pinball on the consoles, and it averages around $3 a table, cheap. I use my xbox 360 almost exclusively for pinball these days except for a couple shmups and fighting games.

Farsight has announced that table pack #7 will be Big Shot and Scared Stiff. Big Shot will be the first recreation of an EM in The Pinball Arcade series so far. There are no announced release dates at this time.
